Pelalora is a town on the southern shores of
Escour Island in
Cosonia that is known for production of pigments harvested from
Flamboyant Coral.
Geography
Pelalora is located on
Prismatic Shadow Bay, home of
Prismatic Shadow Reef from which the town derives much of its income. Most of the shoreline is several yards above sea level, but the eastern stretch of the shore is white sand beach popular with tourists.
Industry
Pigments and Associated Exports
Pelalora is most known for its production of pigments made from the flamboyant coral which is native to the Prismatic Shadow Reef. A traditional process for those who first inhabited the island, it became a valuable commodity as trade picked up after
The Great Invasion due to the pigment's vibrant color and unique properties when used for
enflux purposes.
Pigments are harvested from both wild coral and farmed coral with wild coral pigment being more expensive due to regulations regarding conservation of the Reef's ecosystem. Some of these pigments are exported for further processing elsewhere in Leland, but most are made into inks, paints, and dyes in Pelalora or neighboring towns on Escour Island. Many
compisceanes residing in the area are employed in these production facilities.
Tourism
Like most settlements on the southern islands of Leland, Pelalora sees its fair share of tourism, especially during the winter months. Boat and swimming tours of the reef are popular attractions as are the tours of pigment harvesting and processing facilities. It is also one of the few places to find
acufists who use flamboyant anemone ink in their tattoos, so it is very common for people to return home with new body art.
