Dreamwood

Dreamwood is harvested by cutting down Sleeping Trees in the Allacrausian forest. Since only a few such trees can be cut down each month, the wood is extremely rare. Dreamwood is strong, durable, and one of a very select number of substances that can be used to craft the hulls of airships. It takes enchantment well, particularly enchantment related to flight, air or earth magic, or mind-affecting spells.
Some say that even long after it's cut down, the boards of a Dreamwood tree still whisper to each other across the void of sleep. Legend has it that the trees can speak to anyone who sleeps nearby in their dreams, whether the wood is planted or not, and there are unconfirmed reports of unusual dreams among passengers of dreamwood airships. While most of these dreams are pleasant or even helpful, some are not, and there exist those who cannot sleep on such a ship for fear of what they might encounter, or so they claim. Most chalk it up to nerves. After all, you're sailing through the air.

Material Characteristics

Dreamwood can be a variety of colors, but tends towards black and dark grey. Regardless of its main color, the outside of the trunk pulses with a faint purple glow that can't be explained by any scientific process.

Compounds

Dreamwood is typically saved by wealthy corporations until they acquire enough to build an airship. It can also be used to construct homes, sea vessels, or even everyday objects like weapons, armor or furniture. Such a use would be almost extravagantly expensive, however, and will draw a great deal of attention.

Geology & Geography

Dreamwood can only be harvested from the woods of Allacraus and a few surrounding areas. The trees grow even more slowly than ordinary trees and few are available for harvesting each month. The harvest always takes place the night of the full moon, and whether that's superstition, happenstance or purposeful remains unknown. It is the only time the Harvesters permit select individuals to visit the forest and cut down

Odor

Dreamwood has an earthy, healthy smell that mixes the smell of clean grass with a kind of jasmine.
