They say the creature is responsible for the odd pigment in the people of the passing lands allowing them to survive the heads to great extend and move through the sand easily.

It is said that the Everlight herself was compassionate in the days of old toward the creatures in The passing lands. She created a phoenix that roamed the lands and the embers of the bird were felt through all of the creatures within the passing lands. They were through the influence of the flaming bird enhanced to better suit the harsh environments that they had been driven toward.
