There is a myth in about the The passing lands. It is said that there is a bird made of fire that slumbers below the desert.   They say the creature is responsible for the odd pigment in the people of the passing lands allowing them to survive the heads to great extend and move through the sand easily.

Summary

It is said that the Everlight herself was compassionate in the days of old toward the creatures in The passing lands. She created a phoenix that roamed the lands and the embers of the bird were felt through all of the creatures within the passing lands. They were through the influence of the flaming bird enhanced to better suit the harsh environments that they had been driven toward.

Some say it was a bird that looked like a shoebill others say that it looked like an eagle and some say it looks like a goliath heron.
