Phoenix Guard

Phoenix Guard is the headquarters of the champions of light and is situated in the center of the similarly named isle of light. The castle is also home to the everlight, which fuels the magic of the isle with it's unlimited power, and is tended by the champions of light. Few ever come to the island, much less to Phoenix Guard. Because of this few actually know that it exists or think that it is anything more than a myth.

Demographics

About half of Phoenix Guard's population consists of guardians of light that guard the everlight and patrol the grounds, but there are also elves, dwarves and humans that dedicate their lives to the Champions of Light. These work as servants and do mundane work like cleaning, cooking, hunting, farming, foraging and gathering resources like firewood and different metals. Guardians may help fulfill these purposes too if the necessity arises or they have no other task to complete.

Government

It is common for the elder one to appoint a second in command, there is also a council of experienced champions that exist to serve and advise the elder one. The guardians of light serve as the military arm of the champions and are led by the Grandmaster of the Guardians of Light.

Defences

The fortress of Phoenix Guard is situated on top of a hill in the middle of a valley, with mountains surrounding the entire plain. Waterfalls cover the mountain walls, creating beautiful scenery, but also giving Phoenix Guard access to fresh water. The only path into the fortress is through a heavily defended bridge, if enemies manage to cross it they will be met by the tall walls of the citadel. The walls are also infused with ancient magic that increases their durability but also protect the fortress in other, unspecified ways. Most of the guardians of light garrison the dawn gate but some are always left behind to guard Phoenix Guard and the everlight. Through the use of the everlight anyone can be transported anywhere instantaneously.

History

The settlement, along with the island itself was discovered by Arthalan in the first demonic war after he had received visions of the isle. He crossed the snowy wasteland in the west and encountered the dawn gate, Phoenix Guard and the everlight. Nobody knows who built the citadel or any other structures on the island but it has been used as the headquarters of the champions of light ever since.

Architecture

Phoenix Guard has been built with the utmost care and precision, and with an extremly rare material, Arconite. The architecture baffles even the most knowledgeable historians, it's been compared to the ancient elven style but it is significantly different and has not been found in any other location.
