Karl Herwik

King of the Heretics and Dissidents

The more progress we made, the more clear my role in this grand exodus became. My words began the chain of events that led to it all. Leading everyone whose lives I had affected through my actions to safety was my responsibility. A task for me alone. A task that led me to a throne of my own.
— The Road to Freedom by Karl Herwik, King of Enliten
Karl Herwik was a lord in the Duchy of the Hârdilinen who spoke out against the influence of the Inquisition of Athe and the persecution of religious minorities in the Empire of Pallernen. His outspoken nature attracted the attention of like-minded dissidents, many of whom joined him when Karl evaded arrest and fled the country. Karl Herwik and his band would go on to go on a long journey which eventually resulted in the creation of the Kingdom of Enliten, a safe-haven for the persecuted and a untamed land full of opportunities.

Hervik's Band

Karl Herwik and his supporters fled Pallernen in the year 1502 AA, crossing the sea to the Republic of Vivernia. From there, they found additional support in the form of new volunteers for their journey and the assistance of the Vivernian government. Working together with local officers, he devised his plans to move his people to the Enlitic peninsula where the United Kingdom of Enor and Puhna was embroiled in a civil war. The Panedur of that wild land were few in number and Karl figured that a sufficiently determined force could make the most of the situation and carve out a new realm over there.   With the help of Vivernian scouts, Herwik's band navigated through the treacherous Bálivi wetland and they made their way to the The Kláv. His first great victory in the region was the conquest of Valskaen. The settlement was all but undefended and Herwik's forces were able to take it without much resistance. He emptied the settlement of its inhabitants, allowing the women and children in his band to settle in the town while the rest of the men ventured on towards the east.   Eventually Karl Herwik's army managed to occupy the town of Halikel for a brief time before having to pull out of the town and fortifying the defensive positions along the river west of the settlement. It was there where the fate of the land was decided.   Following a brilliant victory, the valiant leader led his men deep into the heart of the United Kingdom of Enor and Puhna until they finally reached and sacked the city of Itål-Asi which they would then on to call Trotlí. With the panedur defeated and their lands conquered, Karl of the House of Herwik was proclaimed King of Enliten and cheered on as a conquering hero.

Hi there! You may not know me, but I am the sponsor of the Great Leader of Their People Summer Camp Prompt this year! Since you wrote this article, I would like to know, would you mind me reading it aloud on my Twitch channel this week? I have a lot to get through so it helps to do it live while people watch. I've scheduled to go live at 8am and 8pm Eastern Time every weekday. If you join and comment, I can go over your article right then and there! If you'd like to coordinate a specific date, let me know. If you aren't able to make it (or don't want to be present live), you can also always watch streams after the fact on my YouTube channel   BUT, if the answer is NO because you'd rather I not, it's okay! Not agreeing to be streamed definitely does not put you at any disadvantage for winning in my eyes. Please respond swiftly by replying here (make sure to click REPLY under my comment or I won't be notified), message me on my World Anvil profile page, Discord, or anywhere else you find me online.   Thanks again! Whatever you choose, God bless and much success! <3

Ah sorry for not noticing you comment sooner! Lost your comment in the mountain of notifications that I still need to dig through. You can of course read it out whenever you want if you're still doing your reading streams. If I'm unable to catch it live I'd love to watch the VoD later :D
