Biology
The fear gorta does not abide by the normal rules of life. It is a creature born from the idea of famine, but it is sustained by the wild energy of
the Weald like all
fae are. But when plagues and famine arise, some of them cross over to the Prime Plane, though what the purpose of their journey is no one knows.
They appear as emaciated corpses with rotting flesh and thin bones, ranging from pale grey to reddish brass in skin color. It is deathly thin, so thin it can barely carry any objects and they cannot create much physical force. Their nails are terribly long and dirty as well. They do wear clothes, but these are always nothing more than rags.
Intelligence and Social Behavior
The fear gorta are undoubtedly intelligent, but which rules it operates by are unknown. They appear in times of famine, trudging the countryside asking for alms. They reward generosity, but those who shun or treat them poorly are cursed or even attacked. And even worse, if one were to get into a fight with one, they would find that the price has increased. Where normally a small alm of a few silver or gold pieces would suffice, now one requires an offering of vitality, the vitae that sustains all life. In this sense they are sometimes theorized to have some relation to
vampires, but there's been no evidence that the fear gorta actually lack vitae in the way that vampires do, nor do they seem to actively hunt for it at all. As such, this can be considered nothing more than baseless speculation.
