Gensura

Biology

Pale, quadruped lizards that stalk the deserts. Gensura are cold and cunning hunters. They have lithe builds and they are well-adjusted to their environment.Their have erectile fins on their backs as well as the dewlaps on their necks and tail can be raised into the wind to cool themselves down. They also have camouflage although it is limited, but they don't need much variety in a desert anyway. Furthermore they can magically blur themselves to become more difficult to hit as well. Their tails are long and unwieldy, but they serve to wipe out their tracks which ties well into their ambush tactics. They carry venom sacs below their mouth, and the poison they inject into their prey serves to paralyze them so they can be dragged to a safer location more easily.

Intelligence and Social Behavior

For the most part Gensura are solitary and territorial beasts, except for mating season. Occasionally they hunt in pairs shortly before or after the mating period, but this is a rarity. They are quiet animals and prefer to rest under the sand for extended periods of time to avoid the heat and attention. When they are awake and active they usually patrol their territory and mark it. They mostly eat small to mid-sized mammals (including humans) and flowers and berries. They are vicious creatures and domestication is extremely rare and only successful when done from birth or soon after.

Illusionary Ambush

The Gensura are most well-known for their illusory capabilities. They can blur themselves as a defense mechanism, but more importantly they can create intricate illusions to bait in prey. Often this takes the shape of an attractive locale like an oasis or a berry brush. They can even create a semblance of smell and these effective illusions allow them to get the drop on unsuspecting prey. They generally hide below the sand while doing so, leaving only part of their head above-ground to maintain vision and then when their prey approaches they jump out and knock them down with their tail. This is then followed up with a venomous bite that paralyzes its unfortunate victim, and it then drags its prey back down into its hole, where it carefully tears it into portions to feed itself in the coming days.

Crafting Materials

The skin of a Gensura is a minor component of a deck of illusions, where it is used as a binder material. It is also a major component of clothing items with illusionary elements such as shiftweave or glamoured leather.
