Family Structure and Care
Even though the mother (and father if he so wishes) care for their own children, the entire Vhara collectively pitches in and cares for the children, leaving the mother and father with an extremely strong support system. Children are raised in their mother's Vhara, even though they do visit their own father's Vhara a few times. As a result, they are raised by their maternal aunts, uncle(s), grandparents, great-grandparents, older cousins, great-aunts, great-uncle(s), as well as their mother. Even if the mother and father divorce which culminates in the father simply packing his things up, informing both Vharaco and leaving, or if the father or mother dies, the children still get a prodigious amount of care, attention and love from the Vhara.
There are also never any disputes over who owns custody of the children since the children legally belong to their mother's Vhara and take the mother's last name.
Lexiconians are also matrilocal, which means the husband moves into his wife's house and family.
Nuclear familes are extremely rare and unusual on Lexicon and are only seen in the diaspora and when a non-Lexiconian marries a Lexiconian. But even they still have strong ties to their Vhara and often visit Lexicon. Even in nuclear families, sisters and relatives will generally try to live nearby, thus preserving the extended family and social net. If they cannot, they then meet several times a year no matter what.
Men and women are not expected to give up and do not give up their careers after marriage or having children.
