Names

Traditional Lexiconian names are short, with the given name usually seven letters or less and the vhara name five letters or less. Their given name and their Vhara name are joined and said together. This joining is meant to symbolize unity, a sense of belonging, and how they and their Vhara are together and are one. Vhara names are matrilineal, inherited from the mother and are traced and descended through the female line.   Middle or second names are a foreign concept to Lexiconians.   Lexiconians do use matronyms occasionally to distinguish people in the same Vhara from another, as well as a honorific. Matronyms are exactly like traditional Lexiconian names, except now their given name and their mother's name are joined and said together. The joining now symbolizes a direct connection, belonging, and deep bond to their mother. Some examples of them are Kiran-Larha and Erkol-Larha. Kiran-Lara means Kiran, daughter of Larha and Erkol-Larha means Erkol, son of Lara; there is no distinction between genders.   Lexiconian names - both given and Vhara - are often monothematic, consisting of only one single element. Their names are in fact simply the most basic thing in Lehkica = the infinitive which is the word stem. Their names are basically the word stem with no affixes.   Outside of Lexicon, they split their joint name into two seperate names into the given name and the clan name and usually not said together. This is so they could adjust and assimilate easier. However, it is considered polite and appropiate to address and call them by their true joint name and to use the proper form of their names, as Lexiconians tend to quite get annoyed when non-Lexiconians don't say or use the proper joint form of their names. Thankfully, most denizens of the galaxy are aware of that, and call them by their joint names, which is typically common knowledge.   An example of a true Lexiconian name is Rhais-Xol. Rhais is the given name and Xol, is the Vhara name. The two names are joint and fused by the hyphen, or jetti, meaning 'rope', in Lehkcia into one. There is no splitting here into two seperate names, both the names are meant to be said together. However, this name would be split apart outside of Lexicon into Rhais Xol, with no jetti indicating joining.
Very Important Note
There is a major culture clash when it comes to choosing the surname of a half-Lexiconian hybrid, especially in the case of a Lexiconian mother and a non-Lexiconian father. Lexiconian culture and society is matriarchical and matrilineal, despite its high place/emphasis on merit and overall level of egalitarianism, and as a result, children take their mother's Vhara name and under Lexiconian law, as well as in culture and society, legally belong to their mother's Vhara.   However, many species in the galaxy tend to take their father's surname and trace their descent through the paternal line, and women marry into the male's family, unlike on Lexicon and the Lexiconian diaspora (the man does not change his Vhara name upon marriage, he keeps it for life). This situation and culture clash happens when the mother is Lexiconian and the father is not.   In the case of not having a Lexiconian mother but a Lexiconian father, they legally belong to his Vhara instead and they usually take their father's Vhara name/surname as their legal surname unless the mother belongs to a matrarchial culture as well or wishes and allows to give her surname to the child, but still the father will insist the child take the mother's surname.   As a result, couples will fight over whose surname the child will have and take. The couple will usually then have to compromise, with the typical compromise being their kids will take their father's surname legally in the wider galaxy, but in Lexiconian society and on Lexicon are referred to only by their mother's Vhara name, not their legal surname which is the father's, and belong to their mother's Vhara.   A typical example of a compromise: A Lexiconian hybrid named Narad Zorah. Narad's mother is Lexiconian, her father is human. Zorah is her father's surname, which is her legal and common surname in the wider galaxy. But in Lexiconian society, the Lexiconian diaspora, and on Lexicon, she is only referred to and called as Narad-Bax and she legally belongs to her mother's Vhara, which is the Bax Vhara.
