Quarterstaff of Life and Death
Weapon (quarterstaff), very rare (requires attunement)
This quarterstaff is plain and well made, but stands out by the fact that it is not one solid piece, but two separate pieces of wood. One end is a pure white holly wood, while the other is a weathered grey ipe (ee-pay) wood, both ends are solid shafts, but as they approach each other they split, becoming reminiscent of roots, and intertwining with each other to form the staff.
The Quarterstaff of Life and Death is a +1 quarterstaff and requires attunement by a worshipper of Phirulla, the Goddess of Death or by a cleric of the Solidarity domain to use any of its other abilities.
When striking a living creature with the grey ipe end of the stave you deal an extra 1d6 of necrotic damage, which is stored inside of the staff
You can touch a single creature with the white holly wood end as an action to heal them for the entire amount of stored vitality inside the staff
You can activate the healing on yourself while wielding it as a bonus action, depleting the entire amount of stored vitality and healing yourself for half (rounded up)
The amount of vitality the staff can contain is dependent on the wielder's will power, it can store a maximum hp of 1/2 the wielder's character level multiplied by either their Wisdom or Charisma modifier (whichever is higher). All vitality stored in the staff is lost at dawn's first light.
If the staff is wielded by someone Phirulla, the Goddess of Death has deemed as her champion or an esteemed follower then the Quarterstaff of Life and Death is improved to a +2 weapon and the necrotic damage to living creatures improves by 1d6 (to a total of 2d6).
Significance
Most often they are in the possession of and wielded by monastic/clerical orders for Phirulla, the Goddess of Death.
