Arachne

Arachne was an Elven weaver who was transformed into a massive spider-like deity while exploring the deepest layers of the Underdark. Many of the Elder Elves believed her to be a false god who was cursed by the true gods, while many others belived in her power and joined her crusades against the other denizens of the Underdark. The descendants of those that followed Arachne down into the Underdark eventually became the Drow.
According to Arachne, she gained her powers in the deepest layers of the Underdark, though she has never revealed the finer details of her transformation. Arachne sends search parties deeper underground every day with the main priority of mapping the entirety of the Underdark. She has not found whatever it is she is looking for.
