Eyrs Thonich's Investigation, Chapter 1

General Summary

Eyrs arrived in Saltmarsh amongst the crew of The Bold Victory on the 6th day of Patchwall, after a long journey from The Grove. She had been sent across the Azure Sea by Iradole and the Order of Lycan to investigate the missing people of Saltmarsh. After thanking the captain (Handsome Devil) for the ride, Eyrs stepped off the dock. She quickly found a temporary shelter at the Empty Net and began investigating the disappearances she was sent to look into. She talked to the Empty Net's owner Kreb Shenker who told her his brother, Jeb, was missing. She also encountered Gnome Twin brothers - Ertor and Valdon Tarkelby - who were missing one brother, Yeros, and trying to locate another, Zangrim, who lived in town. Eyrs, thinking that she may have seen Zangrim followed another Gnome around the town until she saw something more suspicious. A man in dark clothing was escorting two shackled men from the town hall to the edge of Saltmarsh. Eyrs followed him to a small shack in Crabber's Cove. Eyrs witnessed from a safe distance as the man killed the others, turning them into a supernatural green mist. She waited until he left and then investigated the shack. After some digging Eyrs learned that the shack belonged to a Zulynn Heartwind, who may have indeed changed her name to Zulynn Wavebreaker. Eyrs tried to locate this woman or leads about her at the town market, and eventually throughout a few conversations learned about Mordecai Wavebreaker who was killed 9 months ago, and his son - James Wavebreaker - who was once a ship captain, but recently quit. James joined a newly formed adventuring party a few days earlier. Before fully processing this information, Eyrs heard an explosion - but on the way to investigate she saw the same gnome from earlier - Zangrim - leaving the Dwarven Mining HQ with a tall blonde creature of an unknown race. Keeping her distance, Eyrs watched two hooded figures kidnap a 7ft tall Warforged/Human hybrid and teleport away from the headquarters. Curious, but not sure what else to do, Eyrs went to the jailhouse and saw the killer from before meeting up with Zangrim the Gnome. Eyrs followed the killer for the rest of the day and eventually watched him take a woman into a small hovel for some coffee. She came to the understanding that the killer was James Wavebreaker, and the woman was Zulynn Heartwind, but quickly left to investigate a nearby noise that she worried might screw up her stakeout. Eyrs approached the cellar where the sound came from and encountered Xolec, a vampire chained to a column in the center of the cellar. Xolec offered to give Eyrs information about the disappearances in Saltmarsh if she would free him so he could track down Tahd his vampire rival. Eyrs left without giving Xolec an answer - just in time to witness James Wavebreaker kill another man, who had been tied up under his bed. Eyrs then left before Wavebreaker could see her, returning to the inn to take notes about her discoveries.
