Supplemental Report: Tricky Dyck's Backstory

General Summary

As a bit of a test of the Life Event/Character Backstory tables in Xanthar's Guide to Everything myself and Carson made some rolls to flesh out Tricky Dyck's backstory.

The Rolls

Parents

We didn't want anything too weird to start, so we started off giving him two normal Goliath parents. With that settled we began to do rolls for their characteristics. His father was neutral good laborer and his mother was a neutral farmer. They gave birth to him at home as a family of modest wealth living in a small house.

Siblings

Next, the rolls determined that Dyck had four siblings who were all still living. His oldest sibling was on good terms with him, and was a quite succesful merchant. His next sibling was on good terms with him and was doing well as an academic. His third sibling was on good terms with him but was an infamous Sorcerer. The last sibling and Dyck had fallen out, and they were doing poorly as a sailor.

Self

According to yet more rolls, Dyck was weird and strange from childhood. He knew from a young age that he wanted to entertain. Futhermore, during his time in the Clown College in Clownspace he had a Bard Mentor. We also learned that before he became a Priest he had to partake in a pilgrimage.   On the Life Events Table, Carson rolled seven events. He fell in love three times, gained good fortune two times, got affected by teleportation magic, and recieved the boon of more goood fortune and a treasure map.

Reading the Rolls

Upon reading the rolls we had one major question: Dyck's love life. The table says that falling in love can just be having kids after the first roll. So Carson looked for inspiration in the real life details of the actual Richard Nixon, the man his character was based on. President Nixon had two daughters. So it was settled, Tricky Dyck the Goliath Space Clown would have a wife and two daughters.   Then I wondered and Carson verified, President Nixon had 4 siblings, all brothers. The dice had given Dyck the same exact amount of family members as Dick, and from there it would be easy. Each sibling and child would share a name with their real world counterparts to reflect this, though the names would be edited to appear more fantasy appropriate.   To further the bit, I decided that his Bard mentor would obviously be based on President Eisenhower.

Conclusion

Rolling on these tables was so much fun and I will absolutley be using Xanathar's Guide to Everything as a tool fooor building out backstories in the future.
