Aradel Wood

Durable building material.

"Don't forget to dig the hole deeper than you think it needs to be. It is alright to cover the base of the sapling with some soil. Cover it with some leaves from the forest floor to protect it during the warmer months."
The Tree that Built a City

Aradel wood is well known for being the most common construction element in Burim. The leaders of the lumber town, Garashtan, are responsible for this. They ensured that there would always be new trees growing instead of a clear cut of the entire region. While this has drawn some ire on years where there aren't enough trees big enough to be cut down, it has ensured that there has been a steady supply of the lumber for over six generations.

Properties

This specific wood is sought after because it is sturdy enough to build homes, slightly resistant to catching fire, and still has enough flex to withstand strong winds. This makes it ideal for building multi-level buildings, watchtowers, and for use as poles.   The wood is a unique color, dark brown with a tinge of purple. This makes absurdly large segments very expensive as they are sought after to make round tabletops and other fancy furniture. The trees grow with very little bending in the trunk; due to this, the grain of the tree is usually fairly straight throughout with just little jogs where branches separate. The bark of the aradel tree can go through a number of processes to create a substance with hallucinogenic properties. This is a common item for rituals in Garashtan, though it also has a market in the larger city.

Cultivation

The tree seems only to thrive in the conditions where it was found, around the town of Garashtan. The people who work there say it is the soil but any particular element has not yet been identified.
