"Cloudhaven was founded by Zinato for a reason that only Zinato would, it was a beautiful place. The entire journey there has been designed, from the service staff on the ship to the first view of the Cloudbay. Even knowing that, still an amazing sight."
The Vacation Town
Images of the skyisland that would later become Cloudhaven first reached
Breharan in the journals of the crew of the
Harani. When the now iconic image of the cloud-filled bay - from the journal of
Ryza Chavosi - reached the eyes of a young
Dera Ortoh.
A descendent of the architect who designed the
Great Dam of Darapur,
Dera wanted to create something that would inspire people the same way. This is the feeling she got when she saw Cloudhaven for the first time. The idea of the colony was pitched as a place where people could go to relax, where artists could go to work, and where clouds could turn to coin.
Many years later, in 36EX, when the plans came to fruition, Cloudhaven was born, becoming the first vacation community available to anyone.
The Cloudbay
Cloudhaven is built almost entirely along one road that runs around the Cloudbay. It is in this bay where beautiful fluffy white clouds gather and just sit there like a mountain of their own. No buildings are allowed to be built on the bay side of the road as to not obstruct the view. There is not even a fence for safety, though there have been many heated debates about the installation of one.
Within the bay, schools of silver
skyfish fly below the island and through the cloud mountain. Fishing is one of the many activities that vistors can take part in during their stay.
Engineering Experiences
The community was engineered for the experience, the first time anything of this scale had been. The eras preceeding the
Time of Exploration were focused on survival and then on reconstruction. Now Cloudhaven stands as one of the icons of the new age beside the likes of
skyships and
explorers.
The
skyport is located on the opposite side of the island not only to avoid damaging the view of the Cloudbay but also to create a short trip from it to the town. During this trip, the bay is not visible until the carriage crests a hill suddenly revealing the entire scene from a great vantage point. There is a faster route into town for goods but the long route allows the driver to tell a story and build anticipation for the visitors.
