Gort Jerky
Tough and tasteless.
One thing to which I did not give much thought before journeying all over Grara was what I would have to eat on the long roads between towns. I never imagined I would eat gort. Sometimes when I am eating it, I still wish I hadn't, and yet, I still eat it.
Making Gort Jerky
The meat of the gort is well-suited to making jerky because it is naturally very lean. The meat is cut into thin strips then mixed with salt - and perhaps other spices but usually not, gort jerky is meant to be as cheap as possible - before being dried. There are not many steps but the meat is tough and hard to work with increasing the time requirement of creating the food. But Why Gort Jerky?
Gort jerky became a travelers food for several reasons but it all begins with the general societal disgust with the gort itself. Due mostly to its appearance the gort is an unwanted animal. The taste and texture of the meat leave much to be desired as well. These leave the price of gort jerky quite low as most people do not desire to eat it. While price is often the only deciding factor for someone far from home and who may not speak the local language, the longevity of the jerky is a huge boon as well. It can last for several seasons before becoming inedible - well, more inedible than it already is.Stub Article

Many foods that are otherwise unappealing can have their true flavours and aromas brought out in cooking. The mixture with other ingredients and the effects of heat, even the smoke from the wood, can create a dish that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Travelers especially will mix together anything they have to make a meal. Gort jerky has been combined with everything a travelers has ever held. With all of those combinations at least one of them should have been a success. However, the gamey nature of the meat and the sheer hardness of it make it incompatible with other foods."Somewhere out there is a food that will elevate gort, we just haven't found it yet."
