Huntsmaster

Leader of the fae-killing Wildslayers.

Do you (name) accept the responsibility of protecting our great nation from the dark beings of the forests and mountains? Will you travels to the edges of the nation, to the smallest town, and ascend to the highest peak to do your duty?
(Wait for affirmative response.)
Then I grant you the title of huntsmaster. Serve this nation well.

The Job

The huntsmaster leads the Wildslayers and spends a lot of time in remote regions of Bral seeking out and destroying any fae they may come across.   The first part of the job is gathering intel. People and towns submit reports and the huntsmaster decides which are the most likely to be legitimate claims of fae activity. Then, the master chooses who should go on the mission, usually opting to go along with the other slayers. Finally, the hunt begins.

The History

The title of huntsmaster was established hastily during the unification of Bral by the first emperor as a response to fae impediment to the advancement of his forces. The first huntsmaster was considered a war hero for his efforts in ensuring safe travels for the army.   Over time the job has changed hands many times and the job has evolved as well. According to records in the early years of the organization the huntsmaster could take some slayers out into any part of the wilderness and return triumphant. Now, there are so few Fae in Bral and most of those that remain are so remote that interacting with them is not necessary.

Living in the Wild

Despite seeking out and destroying fae in order to allow villages to be formed and towns to expand, the huntsmaster spends a lot of time living in the wilderness. The Wildslayers believe that the fae can tell which people have slaughtered their kind and either stay away or seek out the mortals to end them first. The wilds are not a safe place for those that damage them.

Forbidden Knowledge

The Wildslayers - but in particular their leader are - allowed to possess knowledge banned from all other knowledge repositories in the nation. This knowledge of the fantastical abilities of the Fae, their weaknesses, their behaviours, and their effects on the world around them.
