The First Voyage

Massive depiction of the event that sparked a new era.

"Excuse me, what business brings you to the guild today?"   "None. I just wanted to look at the painting."

A Symbol of a City

This painting was created by the famous Darapur-born artist Eira Owari. She was one of the many people in the crowd gathered to watch the launch of the first skyship, the Harani. Inspired by this event, she painted the scene.   The painting depicts the skyship leaving the skyport which is full to bursting with the spectators. Children are seen on the shoulders of adults and the shipbuilers a standing separately on a dock from which they can all comfortably watch the results of their labour.   The First Voyage is a massive painting, measuring almost two meters by three meters. It was sold by the artist to the Cartographer's Guild and is displayed in the front room of their guildhall in Darapur. It remains there to the present despite how often the guildhall crowds with people who want to inspect the painting for a while.

This article is being worked on, perhaps not at this very moment, but it is being worked on.

Why This One?

Many artists have depicted the first flight of the Harani over the years. Eira wasn't even the only person present who painted the event.   It is commonly agreed that her painting best captured the mood of the people as that first step was taken into the distant skies. The detail in the people depicted - not only the ship - make it more about society than about a few people on an adventure. These are the most important elements but few would argue that the size of the painting also makes it more engaging.
