Wind

The carriers of life.

"There are many things that contribute to our lives, water, plants, animals, and other people. Perhaps the most important of all though is the wind. The wind carries the clouds and the rain to fill our rivers and our cups. The wind brings us the seasons, fickle as they may be. More than anything else, it is what informs the way we live."

The Windways

While the origin points of the winds are unknown, people have lived by the patterns they follow throughout the year for all time. On (Breharan) scholars have mapped all of the winds that come to the island and the names of the winds have been around for a long time.   Different winds come from different directions. The winds that come from below - from the (Floor) - are wet winds, ones that carry heavy clouds and storms. The ones that come from above - from the (High) - are dry winds since there is very little up there. The remainder of the winds are the middle winds, which have a wide variety of qualities.   The winds are also the cause of the seasons. Cold winds bring winter and warm winds being summer. When the seasons begin to change it is said that the winds are fighting against each other as these times are often filled with wild winds and different temperatures.

In Culture

Not one culture is untouched by the wind. Each has at least one word for it and most have several. Winds often have names and are associated with deities. In writing, music, and visual art it is depicted ine way or another.
