Sudarnen Badlands
Sudarnen Badlands. Cursed wasteland. Haunt of horrors. A land, once the most pleasant and fruitful of lands, now blasted and filled with nothing but danger and fools.
Long ago, perhaps a millenium, perhaps more, there was a large and pleasant land in the northeastern region of the Linibian States. Between a deep and gentle river, and a vast primeval forest. This wide grassland dotted with lakes and a few small mountain ranges was home to perhaps a million halflings, had not been subject to conflict or disaster for several centuries, and was often called Featherhault's Garden by those present. Even conquest by the Korth Horde, in K4C had not had much effect on this land, as there were no standing armies, and the conquerors simply passed by this land, although they did "requisition" a large portion of the food grown here, there was still enough for life to continue more-or-less as normal. This all changed in K754C, when the Troop of the Trustless discovered the key to the Iron Fortress. The construct army that was summoned had been buried in the south of what would become the Sudarnen Badlands during the terrible Giant Slayer Wars of the Dawn Times. These constructs, when called forth, did not march gently. Rather these horrors simply destroyed all in their path, and the Korth, terrified by this force, resorted to the darkest of magics to turn back this implacable foe. The rich lands once called Featherhault's Garden were utterly destroyed. Neither side spared civilians, and within 3 years nothing living remained; even the farms and forests were burned to ash. As the war moved north, the land left behind was settled by monstrosities, Undying left behind by falled Korth necromancers, and several dragons moved in from other regions, looking for an easier land with plenty of wealth left behind. The land itself, as if in protest against the evil done upon it, changed and twisted, raising cracked and shattered plateaus, blackened hills, and dark dismal swamps. The land was no longer a vast and fertile plain of mostly rolling hills and gentle streams, but a broken badlands filled with dangers for the unwary. Civilization might someday recover these lands, but they would never be a garden region again.
