Binding Chains

The manacles clamped down on the haggard man, rough worn, and beaten after a long chase across the city. A loud crash nearby as a broken building finally collapses from the destruction wrought. Smoke and fire filled the city block around them, remnants of the battle fought to bring the volitate down. The man struggled still being able to sense the aether, but unable to reach out to it anymore. The hunter looked down at her prey like a beast looks at a fresh kill and snarled at him, "That will be enough of that, these chains will end your rampage once and for all. You'll have a long time to think about it after your trial. Severing is too good for the likes of you!" The man shivered at the mention of severing as the hunter hauled him to his feet.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Binding Chains once clasped to a person envelop them in an invisible field that repulses the aetheric flows of energy away from the person wearing them. The exact formula for this is a closely guarded secret of the Otemus Arcanium. When the two side of the manacle are clamped closed the runes embedded on each of them form a seal which locks and activates the Bindings. To unlock them requires an unlocking charm, which is unique to each set of Bindings.

Manufacturing process

The connecting chains are the first forged from a mix of iron, caldrite, and orichalcum. Next, another mix of the same material is combined and poured into molds to form the cage structure of each half of the wrist clamps. Then all the parts are taken to a secured laboratory where representatives of the Otemus Arcanium enchant the metal and assemble the Binding by pouring in a melted concentration of enchanted caldrite and aetherite into the cage portion which cools and seals itself within moments. Next, where the Bindings clamp together runes are inscribed that when touched together activate the clamping mechanism lock.

Significance

The Binding Chains' significance lies in the need for a way to lock down aether controlling violators of the law. Without a way to cut off an arcanist or channellers connection to magic would make them a threat when trying to bring them to justice or hold them for punishment.
