The Taker

Rattle, Rattle, clang of chains.
Click, click, locks of pain.
Collar, Collar, drag you down.
Toil, Toil, till in the ground
The Taker will bring his sadness
To all bad children who won't beg forgiveness
Listen now or be locked down
Are you being good right now?

Fairy Tail of The Taker

Summary

Among the people of Rinas this tale and rhyme have been passed down from generation to generation. When children are misbehaving this story is told to them as a bedtime story with a warning, "If you don't behave one morning you'll awaken in The Taker's chains, far from your family, gone forever". The story speaks of naughty children and how they keep disobeying their parents or not sleeping and being loud at night being visited by a scary-looking elf in chains who will take them away forever for their foolish behavior.

Historical Basis

The Taker original was a story told during the height of the Chained Rebellion. When the elves were attempting to regain control of the slaves that rebelled, they would target the families first to draw out the resistance. Many of the family had come to create deeply hidden caches to hideaway. The children would be told they had to be good and quiet or they would be caught and taken away forever because if they were found they could be slapped in chains and dragged away to never see their families again.

Spread

The stories of families being captured spread throughout the rebellion and so how parents handled trying to protect their families and keep them the same lead to the same type of stories being told around most of Rinas

Variations & Mutation

The story details and descriptions have mutated to fit their cultural identities over time. For example, the Shizoku legend has turned into that of making the entity a demon relevant to their culture.

In Art

Many tales and poems have been written over time about this tale and have distorted the original story. Bards spread the tales of a published line of short stories based around the legend of The Taker called, Whats Taken In The Dark.
