Kitsune

Kitsune are a highly spiritual race. With dedicated meditation, kitsune can grow more in touch with the spirit realm, growing more tails in the process. Additionally, this meditation sustains their mortal bodies, but as they get older balancing their connection to the spirit realm and the mortal realm gets increasingly complicated. While kitsune can theoretically live indefinitely, most slip away into the spirit realm around the ages of 60 to 120. Kitsune grow a new tail on average around once a decade.   Unlike the other races, kitsune are still born with unique souls rather than fragments of their parents' souls. One of their gods survived the World Death and is being kept alive by the kitsune in their old kingdom's capital. Kitsune souls are birthed by this god whenever new kitsune are born. Without this, the kitsune would lose their proper connection to the spirit realm and quickly die out as a species within a couple generations.
