Bonja's Volcanic Vents
The Secret Mythic Depths of Brohd Zellor's Volcanoes, and the "Ways" of Zellorian Travel
VENTS to BONJA’S REALM
Each of Bonja’s Volcanic Vents has a different makeup, but what they share in common is a leveled structure of both architecture and natural fissures, pits, caverns, or passageways. Also, the vents generally get warmer (hotter) as one descends. Each vent has nine levels of roughly 1000’ each (so starting at 3000’ up for example, the vent would descend down to roughly 6000’ below the surface). The deepest vents are therefore the ones found in the lowlands. They are also the most rare.
Bonja’s vents contain a number of creatures, many of which might be familiar at higher levels, but getting more and more strange as the levels descend. The mid and upper-mid levels (around zero feet) often have strange aberrations, odd creatures that have never been catalogued, or perhaps seen before. The levels below that begin to get very warm, then downright hot, and they are fatiguing to those accustomed to the surface. There are particular fire-dwelling creatures there.
Some of the visitors are abyssal, and sometimes other abyssal creatures arrive to negotiate and haggle with Bonja and her representatives. (The demonic realm has long laid claim to Bonja’s volcanic realm, and so far she seems very reticent to give it up.) Abyssal planes 37 (Volcanic Megadeth) and 122 (The Flames of Mountain Rotstench) are the ones keen on this Brohd Zellor territory, and there are always emissaries coming through. They are generally reserved unless a fight breaks out, but Bonja has the upper hand here in her own realm, and even demons can usually keep from crossing Her.
One can only find the goddess herself if she wants to be found. If this is the case, they must go through a petitioning process, unless Bonja wishes to expedite. (She loves making people wait, and has a vast “Waiting Cavern” in most of the lower vents.)
THE WAYS
There is a series of “Ways” that crisscross the entire world of Brohd Zellor. With the right guidance, these Ways can shorten travel through the vents by weeks or even months. By the Vents a traveler can arrive in a new Vent or in a completely different part of one they’re in. Without guidance, the Vents are treacherous. They are like astral travel on the material plane, with no anchor (unless one is made). They have different properties, different rules of being...
