Peruvia
Peruvia is an old nation, ruled by a monarch. The primary cultural aspect on Peruvia overall is paranoia. Over hundreds of years the nation has been beset again and again by internal strife, external threat from its neighbors, assaults from dangerous creatures (recurring in all-to-brief cycles), and just plain bad luck. As a result, those Peruvians who pay the least attention to history are nervous about the fate of their nation.
The Monarchs of Peruvia have a tradition of buckling down on the right of their people whenever the least bit of threat arises. This often looks like oppression of the middle and lower classes, extortion of their funds, and money spent on a swollen military. In truth, if there are worthy generals in tow, this step can prove very successful, and things can return to normal, but not without the paranoia returning in double.
Despite ultimately holding its own for centuries, it seems this country is a very miserable place to live; a place of near-constant worry.
Vs. Sallador (and with its neighbors, the Wissel)
A Small Faction of the High Duchy of Wissel is schedming, with the nation of Kro, to develop a great magical weapon, by which to control Sallador, which they see as holding economic oppression over them. Their nations are less restrictive of magical work, and they have contacts in all the Noughtonboroughs of Sallador. Is there a plot afoot? War? Just subterfugal control? Peruvia and Brahainne are involved as well, supporting the effort tacitly. Peruvia is concerned that the military buildup will be turned against them, so they currently muster a great force to place on the borders and of borth Wissel and Sallador. (Wissel knows and understands Peruvia, and how it might be manipulated. Peruvia stands nervously to help with any offense against Sallador, but they are concerned that Sallador will find them out.) An interesting dance of diplomatic niceties, mixed with veiled or not-so-veiled threats, goes around among Sallador (who are catching on with some dangerous espionage), Wissel, and Peruvia. The tension is building: Wissel is getting cold feet, Peruvia is nervous, and Sallador is slowly waking to the plot. Still, there may actually be a fairly massive gathering and training of wizards, war shapers, and other magic users on the eastern edge of Centurion. These are primarily of Kro and Wissel, but a blind eye is turned by Brahainne, and Peruvia consents, albeit anxiously. All four of these countries would be happy to see Sallador laid low. Language The people of Peruvia speak Salidorri Common, with an accent that earns them a bit of ridicule in Sallidor proper. Their written language matches that of the entire western continent. HUMANOIDS and CULTURE- Peruvian culture is fraught with a kind of basic anxiety that never seems to go away. It is a paranoia, that the Monsters will come again, that neighboring nations will rise up and seize their land, that internal strife will tear their nation apart.
- It is a land that needs heroes and inspiration, and these figures seem few and hard to come by.
- Peruvia is always searching for heroes, and the strong and powerful are elevated to the top, almost worshiped, by the populace. It is a dangerous way to do things, as these heroes may not always have the best interests of the people in mind. Peruvian lore is full of great heroes, and rarely do the stories describe the tyrannies that have come of it in the past.
