The Great Nation of Brahainne (brane)
Brahainne is a monarchy that is backed by a “council of 13,” made up mostly of the merchant class from all of Brahainne. The merchants value whatever will make the nation prosper the most, that is in terms of money. The Queen or King is mostly a figurehead, someone to rile up the people and get them on board with the Council’s policies, especially if they’re oppressive and disadvantageous to the common people.
The Monarch is chosen by the council, hopefully hereditary, and has enormous clout among the people, celebrating their working spirit, their salt-of-the-earth value. The Monarchs have been known to result to racism and culturalism to get support for the council, backed by Brahainni tradition and some xenophobia. No outsiders are spared during these times, although the racism rarely ends in actual bloodshed. Rarely, but sometimes.
In most times, control is maintained by the Monarch’s charisma, propaganda, and appeal to xenophobia. Brahainne does also go through more golden periods, however, when the council is more liberal and supportive. But again, these times are rare.
The demands of the economy, which are largely dependent on grain crops, and trading them both north and across the sea, usually need a good supply of cheap labor. So it’s good to keep the people happy in any way.
At the moment, there is a King on the throne, and he is enormously popular among the people, with amazing charismatic presence. He is no fool though. His work is for the council, for they hold the real power. He (Ketikar Brahe) enjoys making his shows, and he has access to incredible stores of wealth, which he accesses copiously.
CONFLICT AND INTRIGUE
Vs. Sallador (and with its neighbors)
A Small Faction of the High Duchy of Wissel is scheming with the nation of Kro, to develop a great magical weapon, by which to control Sallador, which they see as holding economic oppression over them. Their nations are less restrictive of magical work, and they have contacts in all the Noughtonboroughs of Sallador. Is there a plot afoot? War? Just subterfugal control?
Peruvia and Brahainne are involved as well, supporting the effort tacitly.
There may actually be a fairly massive gathering and training of wizards, war shapers, and other magic users on the eastern edge of Centurion. These are primarily of Kro and Wissel, but a blind eye is turned by Brahainne. All four of these countries would be happy to see Sallador laid low.
FLAG
The First People of this area, thousands and thousands of years ago, were accustomed to carrying “flags” of blue, and it became customary to differentiate tribal groups by the blue that they flew. The dozens of different blue represented the dozens of (mostly nomadic) groups wandering the Brahni Plain.
Then, when the nation of Brahainne came to be, the four most prominent clans put their own shades of blue together to make the flag of the nation. (There are still some clans that oppose this and will not fly the flag, but these are outliers, and never is this done in larger settlements and cities, at least not by the royal government.)
CREATURE CONFLICTS
Hill Giants can be a problem from time to time. Who will exterminate them or drive them away?
RELIGION
Many Brahainnis follow a unique religion, passed down over countless generations. They are proud of their heritage, and this sometimes leads to conflict. Most of all though, the Drakka (giver of cattle, from old Brahainni) will leave others alone. There are groups of them living in their own societies, herding cattle and living sheltered lives. There are also plenty others, living usually in Brahainni villages or towns in the out-lands.
