The Prophecy of Eskil
The Prophecy of Eskil, as told by the Darkfeather Priests,
or the Bards of the Earthpit
(Explains the relationship between Eskil and the One, at the end of the world….)
The Darkefeather Teller: Woe unto you, would-be heroes. Eskil’s power is a shadow that darkens your doorstep, enters and tears you apart amidst your worst nightmares. You are slashed open, decapitatred, and disintegrated to a bloody dust.
The Earthpit Teller: I’m a little reticent, as repeating things like this is frowned upon. I don’t know it by heart, and I only heard it a few times [on the streets of Zedjerek etc.], but it goes something like this:
Eskil bears his servitude and oppression from the One Eye,
And long he has striven to make himself invisible--
The Eye of Law boring into him relentlessly--
And thus to approach and destroy
the Thing That Sees Only Order,
And all the Eye’s Kingdom.
For many ages Eskil has tried, and much has he failed
To bring his discord and chaos to the world.
Many say he never will, but thus have I heard:
When the time is right,
And the fruit of the Eye begins to rot away,
Eskil will rise in strength
And drop chaos from the sky like a rain of noise.
Like a deluge of discord and pandemonium
This rain will fall.
And this rain will have a name
That nobody hears
That nobody knows
That nobody can pronounce
And that nobody can hold away
As the Thing That Sees Only Order now attempts
To Bind Eskil and keep him Still
“But beware, Zellorians,” says Eskil, “for your time in Law,
Your time under the protection of the One
Is soon to be woefully,
woefully limited.”
Eskil rises, and Law falls,
And Brohd Zellor is destroyed
Unto the Great Dark Trickster
And His hordes…
As told by Darkfeather Priests or Earthpit Bards
