Zephyran Deities - - "The Zephyron"
The Classical Deities of Zephyra, the pantheon known as "The Zephyron"
These are the deities that have been bandied around among the tribes and clans of Zephyra since anyone can remember. Below are the straight archetypes, but most groups have their own versions or takes on various deities. A "Larkin" in one tribe might be very different in another.
Even non-human tribes, especially dwarves, might take up some of these deities as their own, over centuries of evolutions and exchange between cultures.
The Zephyron's most basic structure is below:
Allfather: Ardren, He Who Sees…
- The patron of Zephyran Shamans, Fierceness in Battle, Lord of Magic, Divination, and Learning. Creator and Sorcerer, All-Seeing (with raven and wolf familiars, and the head of an ancient divinator, decapitated now serving Ardren as all-seer)
- Some have met a strange wanderer in a blue, travel-stained cloak and tall hat. They say the Ardren wanders all of Zephyra, searching for wisdom and precious stories to keep safe in the land of Azgar, in the Chest of Poems.
- They who disguise
- They may take any form
- Greedy, Lusty, Sly and Cunning, Self and Trouble-Making
- Witchy old woman; gods try to burn her in a fire, each time she emerges unscathed… She begins a war between the Aez and the Vannari
- There are a number of charms that have come into use over the many years, to ward Larkin and his mischief, or his deadly evil… Some of them work some of the time, but generally they anger Larkin and draw his wrath
- Freyja
- Forest (justice)
- Bragi (poetry and music)
- Frigg (Vanir: maternal, goddes of EARTH)
- Balder, the sunshine and beautiful
- Tyr: sacrificial hand
- Dwarves: Dark elves might be substituted – A mountainous region with great winding and confusing tunnels and cave complexes.
- Mining gear and leather aprons, in the mountains, “elusive, quirky, mysterious, unpredictable, sometimes grumpy, but generally likeable
- Freyr (Vennari): Nature, Prosperity… fullness and goodness
- Heimdal: “Can hear the grass grow from many miles away”--vennari, nature
- THOR: Hammer and Iron Glove, keeper of order
- Kvasir: Now decapitated, head feeding the mead of poetry
