If you've ever seen an MAI, and wondered why they have a few tally marks with a peace sign somewhere on their hull, then ask no more, as these marks have a quite simple look, but there is much more behind them than what can be gathered at first glance.
So, What Are They?
Much like with the military vehicles of our time, many MAI are marked with a tally mark for every unit they brought down during the war. Which.. is kind of morbid when you realize that MAI hold so much despise for what they did to each other during WWIII, both then and now, so the real question here is, "Why do they keep them?" If you ask several MAI, they'll all give you a similar answer; they keep them because to erase them is to deny what happened to earn them. Not only this, but many feel that it's a form of paying respect to the MAI they took the lives of to keep their memory alive by keeping their tally marks and remembering their names. Some units have taken the liberty of learning the name and ID of the unit that matches each of their tally marks, and if asked, will recite them. The peace sign that sits alongside the kill tallies is simply to represent the end of the war.
A very interesting take on tally marks!
