Nexus

A center for the observation and reflection of time

After The Split in the year 10001, the world was divided into three: Stability, where the land and people stayed resilient to change for thousands of years; Decay, where the people withered with the land into a grim oblivion; and Growth, a land of evolution and innovation, where progress took the people rapidly into a new future of knowledge and growth as quickly as the doomed citizens of Decay crumbled. In this new land, it still took centuries for the discovery of its neighbors to come about. And yet, the discovery still came.

Research Station

Once the discovery of the three came about, the science-inclined members of Growth could only think of one thing: research. Their goal was to find out as much as they could about these new worlds, but in order to do that, they needed to first stabilize the journey between them. This became the first purpose for the creation of Nexus. With Nexus, they had a place to stay between worlds where they could prepare and stabilize themselves for the world they were going to. Its secondary purpose came soon after, as a lab and office space to document and analyze observed data about the worlds.

Refuge

"Ugh, the day's been too crazy. I really need to just go to Nexus."
— Stressed worker
Nexus had a stabilizing property to it, due to the balancing of Growth and Decay. Researchers working there soon noticed this take effect on their emotions, helping them be calm and levelheaded after stressful encounters with Decay. It was later recommended to sell small pods branching out of Nexus to the oublic, to spread the positive effects and help fund the ongoing research into the other worlds. Interestingly, the stability of Nexus became an appealing image of refuge from the rapid issues of life. People bought pods in Nexus to go to to relax by themselves or calm down after traumatic events. Pods sold in thousands, outnumbering the spaces used for research. "To go to Nexus" became" a known phrase for the escape from reality one would do after a long day or troubling events.
