Glass Shadows

John found himself staring down the sights of his pistol at a figure of a woman that appeared entirely made of glass. The facets of her face shone like cut crystal, the muscles, and tendons of her body visible as spun fibers. The hair that fell around her shoulders gleamed in a bizarre rainbow of colors, each strand catching the light from the streetlamp at its own angle. Transparent sheets covered her muscles like skin, though everything was still visible underneath. The effect was captivating, if unsettling. John tried to take a step back, then remembered how close he was to the truck already and held his position instead. She slowly shifted from a sitting position to gather her legs under her and stood up, her eyes finding John where he continued to stand with his pistol aimed. “What are you?” he asked in a low voice.   --From Glass Jaw
John Lockard first encountered this species in the mid-90s while hunting in Central Virginia. The individual he met appeared suddenly in what is speculated to be a traveling pod of some kind, spent approximately an hour communicating with John and then vanished without a trace. The only information we have on them is derived from this one experience and the stories she "told" him. We're pretty sure he wasn't drunk at the time.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Based on what John learned in his interaction with the glass woman, glass shadows appear to reproduce sexually and carry their children as humans do; the images she showed him showed herself heavily pregnant while a male of her species helped her. The implication from her body language was this was her mate or partner, probably the father of her child.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The glass woman claimed her people were a form of energy vampire which absorbs heat as their primary source of sustinance.

Additional Information

Social Structure

In the assumed memories the glass woman showed John, her people appeared to live in arboreal cities during the height of their society. As their numbers declined, they became nomadic, traveling in smaller family groups in search of safe places to hide from humans.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The glass woman John met appeared to have telepathic and tele-empathic abilities which allowed her to read thoughts, memories, and emotions. While she could not project these senses, she was able to read John's memories enough to change her appearance to look like Sarah Lockard.  She was also capable of mimicking the hand signs John had learned during his military career.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The expansion of humans appears to have acted to eliminate the glass shadow population.
Conservation Status
Potentially extinct; we only know of one individual
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Glass Shadows appear to have translucent and transparent skin. They can change the opacity and coloration of this skin at will based on thoughts, moods, emotions, etc. It seems primarily used as camouflage and communication. All of the shadows the glass woman showed John had opaque blue eyes without defined pupil or sclera. All veins, organs, and bodily functions are observable through their skin unless they willfully veil it.
