Western Elemental Magic
"Earth. Air. Water. Fire." "Heart!" John sighed in exasperation and glared at Maddie, who grinned at him brightly. "No. Will you take this seriously?" "Did someone call Captain Planet?" Charlie asked as he came around the corner. "Look, Dad!" Jenny screamed as she sprinted through the room, her head apparently on fire while a fog of wind and mist swirled around her and a ridge of ground ripped up after her steps. "I'm the Avatar!" Dex sighed, shaking his head. "They are so your kids, John."Western elemental magic is based in the alchemy of Greek and Roman philosophy. Western mages and alchemists recognize four or five elements which are the source of magical energies, most commonly fire, water, air or wind, earth or stone, and void. Not all mages are talented with all elements and most favor one over the others; for example, John Lockard is one of the foremost fire mages in hunter history but his water and ice magic are extremely weak and he tends to lose control of it easily.
And I wasn't wrong. There is a fifth element. --Maddie
Of course you weren't wrong. You were just making me look like a fool. --John
You do that fine on your own. --Dex
Manifestation
The elements manifest through one of two magics: conjuration and evocation. Conjuration involves the calling or creation of the element in question, while evocation involves the manipulation of already existing substances. Sometimes evocation magic is synonymous with kinesis magic, like pyrokinesis.
