Grappling Hook

Grappling Hook

Adventuring Gear

Common

Price: 2 gp
Weight: 4 lbs

When tied to the end of a rope, a grappling hook can secure the rope to a battlement, window ledge, tree limb, or other protrusion with a successful ranged attack roll -- its range is 20 feet with a maximum of 40 feet. Doing so requires the use of two hands.   If used in combat, treat a grappling hook as a one-handed improvised weapon that deals 1d4 Slashing Damage, either in melee or thrown.

The metal hook has a central shaft with a hole at the base to attach the rope, and three or four equally spaced hooks at the end, arranged so that at least one is likely to catch on some protuberance of the target.
