Once lit, it burns for 6 hours on a flask (1 pint) of oil. 
A moderate wind extinguishes it.

Lamps are usually made out of metal or clay. A textile wick drops down into the lamp's reservoir, and is lit at the end, burning the oil as it is drawn up the wick.
