As an action, you can use these restraints to bind a creature you are currently grappling with a successful Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check contested by the target's Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check. The attempt is automatic if the target is Incapacitated. The manacles can be used on a small or medium creature. While wearing manacles, the creature is Bound. As an action, you can lock or unlock the mechanism using the key. Without the key, a creature proficient with thieves' tools can pick this lock with a successful DC 15 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check. Otherwise, escaping the manacles requires a successful DC 20 Dexterity check. Breaking them requires a successful DC 20 Strength (Athletics) check. One check to escape the manacles can be made every seven days.
Common manacles consist two cylindrical rings, each with a hinge, linked together with a chain. A mechanical locking mechanism housed in an iron casing controls the opening and closing of the hinge, so they can be used to bind or unbind hands or feet.
