As an action, you can drive a piton into soft earth or clay. With a hammer, you can drive it into wood or stone. Once driven into a surface, it can act as a tether that can be used as a securement, and multiple pitons can be threaded together using a single rope, improving their usefulness as a climbing tool.
If used in combat, treat the spikes as one-handed improvised weapons that deal 1 piercing damage when used in a melee attack or ranged attack (range 10 feet / 20 feet maximum)

The spikes are shaped as long steel cylinders. One end comes to a sharp point, and the other has a loop through which a rope can thread.
