The End of the Line

Metaphysical / Paranormal event

The party discovers a rift in time and come face to face with themselves from a future timeline where everything went wrong.

As the party travels, Indigo has been having a difficult time meditating of late. This comes to a head when he believes he’s being attacked by nature and throws a firebolt to protect himself. In reality, he throws that same firebolt at the harmless ground and hurts Mirian. Not seriously hurt, but the whole party agrees he shouldn’t meditate in the near future.   They arrive at the edge of the massive Dinosaur Cave and travel down into it. The whole area is frozen and dying, nothing more so than the actual dinosaurs. Indigo makes a bold move and meditates to prepare Goodberry. He feeds an Anklyosaurus to give it a chance to live longer. Which only sucks for Danger who wanted its hide to make armor.   They continue onto a frozen pond, where Indigo saves a Pteranodon and sends summoned owls to find and feed other dinosaurs. They travel through some winding trees and get to the front steps of a temple at the center of it all.   Inside is some kind of ancient greenhouse. Everything is built around a plant that is no longer there, uprooted from the earth. But before the party can guess what that may be, unknowable magic erupts into the room from that spot. It forms the shape of a tree, opens up, and drops a blue and scaly Halfling into the room. Daryl, from the future.   This Daryl can barely move, clearly broken in some way, but he shoves a notebook into his younger self’s arms. It is of the same design as Daryl's. Before he can explain, twin rapiers are shoved through him. The tree has opened up and deposited two more. A masked man resembling Mirian, and an older Indigo with a dangerous-looking plant for an arm. They ask for the notebook. Daryl quickly prestidigitates a copy and makes a run for it. Future Indigo and Mirian start to attack when the tree drops off one more person, a totally berserk future Danger.   Future Danger creates total chaos, attacking everyone indiscriminately. The party runs out to find a hiding spot in the woods. They see the future Indigo summon four minor elementals to help search for the party. In the meantime, they crack open the notebook, labeled with the number 2, and read about their own future.   The story of how they fell.   Indigo Fury became a servant of Virescent, the Green Dragon. Mirian lost himself to the Facade, becoming a living weapon for whoever can wield him, in this case also Virescent. Danger’s alliances are much more muddled. Under the sway of the Berserker Axe, he has become a Berserker who will attack anything and anyone he perceives as a threat.   And now they’re all here. Too dangerous to be allowed out into the world.   The party makes plans to take on each in turn, and they start with future Indigo, referring to him as Fury. Luring him out onto the frozen-over pond with a plan to sink him into the water. Instead, he uses Locate Creature and follows it up with Tree Stride. He uses his own plant arm to jump from the ice sheet to the tree where Indigo waits.   Both sides fight, but whether through luck or Fury’s own reluctance to hurt his younger friends, they defeat him. Danger personally slicing him to bits in a rage.   Next, they take on Facade, who opens the fight by sending his rapiers through Indigo three times. Dropping him instantly. Nobody is holding back this time. Mirian duels himself, Facade knowing more than a few more moves. But by working together, reviving Indigo, and attacking as a team. They defeat Facade as well, Danger personally uses his Warhammer to break apart Facade’s face and cursed helmet.   Finally, they take on Berserker, and things fall apart. They attack and attack, but Berserker just keeps on coming. Danger, in particular, has raged too many times. He’s exhausted. One by one the party all drops to the ground, dying. Berserker walks away as they struggle to get back up.   By the grace of god Indigo gets back up. He uses his last spell slot to heal Danger. Mirian and Daryl are brought back and they all agree to rally to stop Berserker.   They strategize better than ever before and track Berserker down. Like a scene straight out of Kill Bill, they bring Berserker to his knees. But, as usual, it’s Danger who finishes himself off. Piercing his future self’s skull -- a fountain of blood spurting forth.   Unsure of what to do next, the party resolves to find a way to stop Indigo’s Eclipse Corruption that’s putting him on the path to becoming Fury. The only place that might be able to help is Seorsandor in the Elf Prefecture. A Cleric research station of the Nature Domain.
