Fáwë Ëar
Called "The Frozen Sea" in Elvish, lake is miles wide and frozen most months of the year. It hides many creatures under its three-foot deep ice, and they become agitated as spring approaches, threatening their safe hideaways beneath the ice and water.
It is rumored that Shalimyr crafted the lake as a gift to his lover Zheenkeef, attempting to create something beautiful that she would admire. When she saw the frozen expanse, she laughed in derision.
"Where is the life?" She asked. "Where is the revelry? There cannot be beauty without chaos."
She left him on the shore and in anger he brought his fist down upon the ice, shattering it. This is the reason the lake thaws, and even on it's coldest days, one can never be too careful. For Shalimyr could decide at any minute that he would rather swallow the travelers than let them cross.
