Long ago there was a woman named Jes, and she had one hundred children. Her rivals conspired against her and swore to kill her children. Jes begged the Sovereigns for help, but their only answer was the wind and rain. In the depths of her despair, a lonely traveler took her hand. “I will protect your children if they follow my path. Let them wander the world. They may be shunned and feared, but they will never be destroyed.” Jes agreed, and the traveler gave her his cloak. When she draped it over her children, their old faces melted away and they could be whoever they wanted to be. And so it remains. Though the children are shunned by all, the gift of the Traveler protects them still.— Chance, changeling priest
Currently,
Edmond is the only Changeling that Tek has ever met, and neither of them know quite enough to refer to it by that name.
Physical Characteristics
Changelings can shift their appearance to that of another humanoid creature at will, making them practically impossible to recognize on-sight. However, underneath their chosen personas is a "true" form; they look a lot like humans, save for how their entire bodies are devoid of color, making them appear strange and almost statue-like to others.
Culture & Experiences
There are some old and obscure stories of fae creatures who could change their appearance at will, often with the intent of tricking, stealing, or otherwise luring people to their deaths. However, if these creatures exist in the current day, no one seems to be aware of them. Edmond himself keeps his true identity a closely-held secret, even though he barely knows what it is--so perhaps this is a common trait among them.
Edmond seems preoccupied with forming personas and exploring identity, gender expression, and his relationship with his own appearance, but it is hard to say if this is a trait of his kind or if this is simply the result of Edmond's rather unusual upbringing.
Abilities
As an action, a changeling can change their appearance and voice. They determine the specifics of the change, including coloration, hair length, and sex. They can also adjust height and weight, but not so much that their size changes. They can make themselves appear as a member of another race, though none of their stats change. They can't duplicate the appearance of a creature they've never seen, and they must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that they have. Their clothing and equipment aren’t changed by this trait.
They can stay in the new form until they use an action to revert to their true form, or until they die.
