Lockhinge Keep

Trieste, Duino castle
  • Perched on tall outcropping, jutting into water. west of keep is most of city, east of keep is portside and road to liyda
  • where stone from? local or not?
  • location of the most secure vaults in the kingdom. rumor that the basement stretches far down into the rock, some saying that it goes even deeper than that, series of vaults and dungeons and secrets reaching down into the earth. some say infernal hellmouth at the bottom.
  • One of those secrets of Lockhinge history that no one can agree on, conflicting records and accounts. some say it was built by early inhabitants and lockhinge was forming. some say was granted in an infernal pact. some say earlier people built it and the tieflings just took over the building. some say that the castle has always been there, growing out of the rock itself.
  • once inhabited by more people than are there now, whether that was the rest of the thriyan family or some other earlier occupants. many unused towers that face the city. Many sections of the castle closed, though the children often find secrets routs to go play in these "haunted" parts of the castle.
  • used to have more guests, more activity. but countess very secretive, very small entourage of attendants, doesnt hire outside very often. does host visitors, but not often and not for very long. when can socially away get with it, hosts them in the luxury suites in stone quarter.
  • has large semi-private library and a couple entirely-private libraries (probably in the basement).
  • private garden wraps around the side and part of the back of the castle
  • courtyard and grounds stetch forward from the castle along the ridge, with outbuildings including servant's apartments, "public" library, which doubles for other uses such as schooling for high ranking noble children (and any minors working at the keep)
