Lockhinge Notes - Anti-Ranger Ranger
"I just want to write about Irahl! what if I just make a new character based on Irahl..."
"...do it. Scary ranger who went rogue."
Ranger who went rogue, now hunts and takes out other rangers. Knows their tricks, knows their techniques. Expert tracker and sniper.
Rangers have to start outsmarting one of their own. They have to change up their birdcalls once they realize their enemy is using them. Can take measures to counter magic, and use some things like faerie fire to counter mundane stealth. Hunting in a pack is technically safer, but easier to track and observe. Hunting alone is more dangerous, but easier to hide and also try to gain element of surprise.
Are they angry at all rangers, or do they have another goal, such as hunting the Count Consort, or striking at the Ixenis. (or are THEY an Ixeni?)
Sniping, true hunter. Leave slain rangers in particular location, or displayed a certain way? Take trophies (either something morbid, and/or the ranger dogtags, and/or notice that they've taken piece of jewelry or personal belongings).
Does this ranger know them individually and/or observe them until they do? Long-distance tracking or strike when they can? Leave them signs to find, either like footprints around camp at night even when there was someone on watch at all times, or like blair witch style? Are they just a really good hunter, or are they cheating somehow? Do the rangers know who it is the whole time, is it a mystery for most of it, or do the highest ranking individuals know but aren't telling the lower ranking ones for some reason. (Like maybe beloved teacher they thought was dead or were left for dead etc) Ex-Sentinel? Somethings bad happen to them or were they disgraced?
The story of tracking a wolf over long distance, then looping back on own tracks, realize you're not hunting the hunter like you thought you were.
Inspired by Irahl. Pull more inspiration from his character and history somehow, or just launching-off point?
