The Impure Aether Crystal, contrary to what common sense might indicate, is not a crystal, nor does it contain Aether, nor is it impure. It is a type of pure gem whose ethereal conductivity changes drastically depending on its temperature. Striking it when it is red-hot increases the amount of mana it can handle, strengthening its Sintony, but if hammered with an apousian material, the gem loses the ether it naturally contains.

Normally, when a material becomes desintonize, it always seeks to return to its natural harmonic state, reabsorbing aether as quickly as it lost it. The peculiarity lies in its changing conductivity relative to temperature; if we cool the gem after draining a significant amount of Ether, which we can identify as the gem darkens when it has less, it will not be able to recover it in time. If the resulting gem, which resembles obsidian, is wrapped in an apousian material, the Impure Aether Crystal becomes completely deharmonized, turning into a magnet for aether that does not flow with natural harmony.

Due to its negative charge, if the insulating material is removed, the crystal will absorb all the aetheric radiation around it and become the primary target of any Ether burst or anomaly that might occur. This makes the IAC an indispensable item for any adventurer wishing to take a stroll through the Etherio's Scar.

Nomenclature

As you can understand, more than one jeweler, blacksmith, and scholar has been shocked to discover that none of the names reflect the true identity of this gem. Well, that's because the decision was made to illustrate its utility more simply, or at least that's what the Adventurers' Guild thought. What's the opposite of a Pure Ether crystal? An Impure Ether Crystal. If you want to avoid the dangers of one, you have to buy the other, right?
