Kaer Bryn

Sitting on a small rise surrounded by marshy lowland in Gelofrisk Dal, Kaer Byrn was hastily built by Nasa Rotbart after King Harvald's Bargain unleashed a new foe on the battlefield. Representing the eastern reach of the cursed armies, Kaer Bryn and fortifications like it were constructed during the height of the first generation of goblins to stop their advances into the lands of the Alliance of the Bite. Unlike many of the others, Kaer Bryn was surrounded by a landscape that may have contributed to its strength as a fortification, but which significantly diminished its long term viability. The marshes provide ample fresh water but limited forage, and place the fortification at some distance from any settlement of consequence. The main weakness of the location is winter, with the difficult terrain surrounding it becoming easy to traverse when the inundated muck becomes a frozen plain.   A natural motte with limited room for a bailey at the east and west, a wide rectangular stone foundation for a wooden tower still lingers with fragments of a rough stone wall to outline where Kaer Bryn once stood as a bastion against hordes of goblins following the valley down toward the east. Along the southern edge of the wetland runs the Clambibur river, ensuring that it can never be drained.   During times of strife the locals and fighting forces have retreated to Kaer Bryn several times in the last few centuries. Even its apparent winter weakness can be a defense, as demonstrated by the druids who turned the icy field surrounding the hillock into a tomb for hundreds of goblins attempting to besiege the villagers hiding there in the battle of Winters Revenge.   Today, few remember Kaer Bryn or its role in the defense of their ancestors. It appears as a small shrub and tree dotted knoll in the marshland north of the Clambibur and the main road that follows along its southern bank.     - -   Originally written for 2024 Summer Camp challenge answering Building A building that was meant to be temporary
