Session 7 Report

General Summary

With a blast of Thunderwave Deafaren ended Gog, the fight, and incidentally K'van.  With the melee concluded The Party requested Kost to give them a Helping Hand.  Providing them the severed arm of the fallen bandit, Kost completed a thorough inspection of the arm.  Seeing such careful examination convinced the smaller members of the Party not to trust Kost with their fallen Goblin comrade. Seizing the treasure horded by the orcs and securing K'van to a litter the Party hurried back to Phandalin to save the day.   As the approached Phandalin with the rising sun to their backs the party was greeted with a fiery blaze of the town aflame.  Fortunately, the fire had not advanced much before the alarm was signaled and Toblin organized a fire brigade.  MacWazard's arrival gave the settlers respite as he applied Ray of Frost to the burning thatch.   While frosting the roofs, the team's wizard also investigated the flames.  He found that they had been caused my material means, no magic at play.  Unfortunately, the muddy streets had been less kind to his investigation, and there were no witnesses to the arson.   The party decided to split focus.  With one team --Deafaren, and Beefcake-- approaching Halia in the ruins of her business.  Halia's business was the first to be lit aflame, and with it being unoccupied burned amongst the longest to burn.  Fortunately, like many of the Phandalin buildings her's was made of stone so most of the structure remained intact.  Halia's stonecold demeanor cracked though with her genuine grief showing through.   The other team --Wynn, MacWazard, and Elruis-- followed Pip and Karp to the secret entrance to the dilapidated manor's subfloor.  Sneaking into the Redbrand's liar they found their heads filled with the lunatic ravings of a hungry nothic.  Diverting the nothic's intentions away from eating their companions; Wynn -- garbed in a bloody Redbrand's cloak -- introduced the nothic to dairy products, specifically cheese.   Not to be detected by crazed hungry monsters seeking man flesh and telepathically rambling the party continued their exploration.  The next room to they found was a workshop, but before they could investigate it they found themselves speaking with a rat.  Not being too intelligent the rat quickly became confused and scurried under the door to their master Glasstaff's room.  The adventures attempted to hide but were found out when Glasstaff interrogated the nothic.   Confronted by Glasstaff the team turned a precarious situation to their advantage by convincing the evil wizard that they were new to the organization.  Glasstaff tasked them to spy on the town and report back before the raid on the small village.   Taking this opportunity the team first decided to meet some of their new 'coworkers'.  They found the common area for off shift Redbrands with several deep in their cups.  In another room were three bugbears and a fainting goblin.  On the other side of the structure the team ended the rest of Greg's squad before looting their goods.   Before leaving the team wanted to investigate a bit more.  They managed to avoid a deadly trap pit in the hallway, took out some living skeletons, and freed human captives bound in chains.
