Firebird Feather
You shift under your slightly hard weaved grass blanket, tucking your knees up. You tuck your head under the orange and pink cover, slipping it into the tent formed by your knees. You pull out your firebird feather, the small flame flickering. Vanilla wafts through the air, comforting you. You place it behind your long, pointed ear so that the flame faces your scroll. You unfold it, and begin to read.
Properties
Material Characteristics
This is a long feather, bright orange in color. It is somewhat striped with a darker brown color. It has a small flame on the tip that burns until dipped in water. It is not hot but simply gives off light. The base of it is thin and very sharp. While on the Firebird, it can make the fire hot, but once it is removed it cannot be changed. It is usually either room temperature or mildly lukewarm. It is beautiful and often quite prized.
Physical & Chemical Properties
The flame is often lukewarm or room temperature, but can occasionally be found burning hot. If it is plucked from an aggressive Firebird, it is often much hotter than if it is from one on a farm. The tip of the feather is very sharp and slightly acidic.
Geology & Geography
This is only found in Andria, as this is where the firebirds live. Some live in other continents, but only if they are taken there. They are exported from there to the rest of the world.
Origin & Source
This is a feather of the firebird. It is the longer feathers located near the back of the bird, plucked off either a dead or alive one.
Life & Expiration
Despite the flame on the tip, the rest of the feather is just a feather. It typically only lasts for around a month, but if preserved it can last a few years before simply deteriorating.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Its favored use is for writing, especially at night. The small light from the flame is used as a light, typically. However, these are sometimes just used to make clothing, jewelry, or even simply decorations.
Cultural Significance and Usage
In Andria, these are considered somewhat sacred, and are often used in various rituals, the most common being religious. They are used in place of candles, in situations where candles would be used. Due to their comforting flames, they are, by some, believed to give happiness.
Distribution
