Ship of the Agents
You open the creaky, dark scroll, leaning back in your chair. Three young children look up at you with shining eyes. The young Dragonling, Sandfox, and human look on in anticipation as you flex your creative voice. You begin, "Long ago, before the losing, a race of geniuses was plotting. They looked over their glowing maps that shined with light from their metal magic. They, in a language lost to time, decided to come here. They came in sky ships that flew like dragons and glowed like the stars. When they entered the air, they saw the world before the Horrors. They landed there and saw animals, but they weren't like you and me." You gesture to the tiny Sandfox. "They were dumb and small. They couldn't make scrolls like this one or make houses to live in. They left their ships behind to explore the world. They were still exploring when the horrors stole our world. Now, their ships are still out there. We don't know where, but legend has it they can still fly as if by magic." The human raises her tiny, bare hand and asks, "Could I find the ships?" You respond, "If you want to be an adventurer, you may be able to find it, and then you will be able to fly and glow and be the richest human alive."
Summary
The agents came to the world in ships, which could fly with incredible technology beyond anything that currently exists in this world. Many people think they still exist, though some believe that time would have made them worthless and broken. Scholars and commonfolk alike disagree on the exact nature of these ships, with wild theories ranging from them simply not needing air and flying to massive ships the size of cities.
Historical Basis
Anyone who knows about the agents knows they must have come from somewhere.
Spread
Many bards, wizards, scholars, and other storytellers know this tale. The only place that some variation of this tale is never told is Eshaque, where it is illegal. However, in places like The Fortune Lands and Dreanesia, the stories are incredibly convoluted and twisted. Most of the people in those areas are so distant from the rest of the world that by the time the stories reach them it is completely different.
Cultural Reception
This story is usually received as a fun children's tale, but many adventurers have sought out these ships to use them for themselves. Eshaque considers it completely illegal to share this story in any way. The Desert of Souls is especially fond of this story.
