World under revision! This world was originally written purely as a Dugeons and DragonsĀ® setting. It is (slowly) being rewritten to be system agnostic When things don't seem to work togewther, this is likely why.

Empyrean

Like daemons have traces of the Abyss in them, empyreans have the divinity of the gods. This is somewhat less visible but every empyrean still has tell-tale signs of their origin. They might have a faint halo, golden markings on their skin, or hair that floats gently. Whatever an individual's mark of divinity is, others will take note.

Being born empyrean is only partially a matter of blood. It behaves like most traits prevalent to a species, such as hair colour. But there's also an element of divine magic involved and empyrean blood might be triggered by events when divine power is called upon. In the latter case, the individual empyrean is likely be someone whose personality lines up with the gods who called on them. With any other empyrean, their legacy doesn't dictate anything about their behaviour. Others are likely to see good in them and this often fosters a sense of respobsibility that leads to a self-enforcing spiral.

When an empyrean ends up hurting others for their own gain, others of their kind are often the first to condemn or even hunt the perpetrator down. After all, if any of them destroy the reputation they have, all of them will suffer. Any moral failure by an empyrean is a big deal.
