Mageseekers

This article is depicting a potential future of this world. Some events in here might not have happened yet and will be changed by the actions of the players involved in this world. Until these campaigns have concluded, this article will exist in a superposition between existance and non-existance.   Some version of this article will survive, but who knows what it will be when all of this is over
This is a stub

This article will be expanded upon in the future

Mageseekers haven't been seen in a while. They are the harbingers of something way worse to come. Tria demands that we respect the power of magic, and if we don't, her wraith is coming for us. When you see a Mageseeker heading your way, you rather reconsider your life's decisions and run.
Mageseekers are a magical feline species on the hunt for magic and magic users. They feed on the arcane power of their surroundings and their prey, draining them from all magic, and eventually all life energy. While their sight isn't great, their sense of smell, especially for magical energy and artefacts, is excellent. They can track down magic from miles away, and are attracted to it, like moths to a flame.   Many people believe that Mageseekers are the harbingers of Tria's wraith, that they are the first attempt at stopping mortals from abusing magic. They are as much a predator as they are a warning. Should the people not reconsider their actions, the power of Tria shall strike them down.

Physical Description

Mageseekers are feline creatures, with completely white fur and glowing blue eyes. On average, they are as big as a small bear, but can reach sizes up to multiple meters high. Magical energy seems to constantly flow into them, creating blue lightning that's constantly swirling around their body.   They are incredibly quick, reaching up to 80km/h (50 mph), and they can hold that speed for hours. This makes them incredibly dangerous predators that can hone in on their targets from hundreds of kilometers away, and reach it within a couple of hours.

Abilities

Magic Sense

Mageseekers can sense any form of magic from kilometers away. While their sense of normal sight is rather poor, nothing magical can avoid their perception.

Energy Apsorption

The creatures absorb any kind of magic from its surroundings. This includes spells thrown directly at it, making it incredibly dangerous for magic users.

Power Discharge

Mageseekers not only feed of arcane energy, they can discharge a part of the energy they have absorbed, creating lightning storms striking out towards their targets.

Arcane Recovery

Using the absorbed energy, they can heal their own wounds, even regrowing entire limbs and closing otherwise lethal injuries.

History & Myths

History and myths around this creature are hard to distinguish. Records of their appearance exist across history, often associated with the impeding doom of a great Arcane Civilisation. Many believe them to be the heralds of Tria's wraith. A harbinger of doom and destruction. Others simply think that they are an accidental creature of great magic - an entity that appears when there is enough magic around it to sustain it.   During the War of Fate, Mageseekers have stalked countless areas of Teldora, most notably the Silver-Heart-Bastion, and the lands of Dracari, always on the hunt for the most powerful magic users or wielders. After the war was over, the Mageseekers also vanished again, and there are no reported sighting of them since, until a couple years ago.   In the early 800s MOR, first sightings of the creature were reported around Asolios, and on the 3rd of Snowtide 839 one of the students at the Academy of Arcane Arts was attacked by a creature resembling a Mageseeker and killed.

If I was a mage in your world, I would be terrified of actually using my magic with these things around! I wonder why they are starting to come back...

Scholars all over the world are wondering that, and mages have become more careful. They are the perfect hunters of mages and magic!

Are there any calculations or experiments on how much magic one must practice to "summon" one?

People haven't really dared testing out that limit, but according to history and myth, it's not just about how much magic you are practicing, but also why and how you are using it.

If you are careful, don't use any magic, and best case are a follower of Tria, I think with enough dedication they are cuddable. :D Now I want to somehow create a character who has one of these as a trusted companion   Thanks for creating the challenge. Had a lot of fun writing this article!

These guys are scary, but I love them. The design is cool and I like how you've kinda trimmed down all of the potential World Anvil prompts into a more manageable set of subheadings (Description, Abilities, History). Well done!
