Dancing Mouse
With an average size of one and a half fingertips, the dancing mouse remains one of the smallest creatures not only in Nalidin, but in the entire known world. It hides in the rocky crevices of Singing Hills and is known to make nests in the abandoned burrows of other small animals.
What gives the dancing mouse its name is its habit to dance and leap around after eating mirál berries. The berry is deadly to humans after just a couple of handfuls, but the dancing mouse seems to have developed a resistance to its effects, being able to survive after eating more than its bodyweight. This resistance makes it not only one of the few animals capable of eating mirál berries, but the only animal (besides humans) who deliberately seek out and consume them.
Outside of mirál berries the dancing mouse is mostly carnivorous, living on insects and their larvae, as well as small lizards and sometimes the young of small mammals. Lacking the usual prey, carcasses and plant matter such as seeds and roots may become part of its diet as well.
The dancing mouse is sometimes hunted by birds of prey or small hunters such as foxes. Despite that and their short lifespan they remain a regular sight in the Singing Hills.
