Itinerä, Firefox (ˈitiˌneræ)
From the time of ancient runans in the First Age has there been stories of the fox which burns bright against the cold darkness of midnight. It hides deep in the Ruňan Wilds, under fallen trunks and giant's rock. When its bushy tail hits a tree or a heap of snow, it sends a flame of colors across the black sky. Blues, greens, reds and yellows dance throughout the night at the absence of clouds.
With how remote regions the itinerä lives in, its effects are much better known than the actual fox itself. In the light of day it appears as a regular fox with pitch black fur like dead embers. But after the sun has disappeared and it leaves its nest, the fur comes alive in a display of gold-hued flames. Sparks fly of it as it leaps over the fallen trees, yet its touch doesn't burn or harm.
Like its less glowing cousin, the firefox can eat just about anything. Rodents and insects, plants and berries. It also lives in networks of holes either dug by itself or left behind by another creature of the forest. Itinerä avoids areas with a lot of liquid water, instead preferring the dry corners of the wilderness or the icy land of dusk far in the Ruňan north.
Itinerä's fur makes a it a valuable target for any hunter. The ones who manage to hunt one is said to have riches and luck enough for the rest of their life. The fur itself retains the fox's color change during day and night. Its more often used to light places where fire becomes a danger than to create clothing or adornments.
